COSTA MAYA
|
In the south of the State of Quintana Roo, along 28 miles of the Caribbean coast, between
the towns of Majahual and Pulticub, a very low density, fully-planned resort will be created, completely integrated with nature and surrounded
by five Protected Nature Reserves of exceptional beauty, with the purpose of enriching the offer of tourist destinations in Mexico with attractions
of the highest quality that allow new, higher-spending and longer-staying market segments to be captured, such as ecotourism, diving, water sports,
golf and adventure tourism.

The Majahual - Pulticub Corridor is located in the municipality of Othon P. Blanco in the State of Quintana Roo, which borders on the municipalities of Jose Ma.
Morelos and Felipe Carrillo Puerto, as well as the Caribbean Sea and includes the coastal strip from Pulticub in the north,
to the town of Majahual in the south, covering approximately 28 miles of coastline.

Its area of influence includes the town of Chetumal, the Bacalar Lagoon, the Protected Green Areas of the "Sian Ka'an" Biosphere Reserve,
the "Chinchorro Banks" Biosphere Reserve, the "Xcalak Reefs" Marine Reserve, the “Manatee Sanctuary” Ecological Reserve, and the “Uaymil” Wildlife
Reserve, as well as the ceremonial sites Kohunlich, Kinichna, Oxtankah and Dzibanche, located in the south of the State of Quintana Roo.

Mexico's Costa Maya is the newest part of Mexico being
developed by the Mexican tourist agencies. The beautiful undeveloped
beaches south of Tulum will soon make the Costa Maya a popular place to
vacation.

Costa Maya Miles and miles of powdery white sand line the
coast from Majahual to Xcalak. This is the Costa Maya. Rustic bungalows
and small hotels dot the shoreline around Majahual and Xcalak and offer a
relaxing alternative for those who want nothing more than to gaze at the
bewitching blues of the Caribbean Sea.

A chain of reefs, part of the Mesoamerican Reef System, the second longest
in the world, shadows the Costa Maya and behind this massive natural
barrier the sea is calm and the waves caress the shore.
The reef is a living underwater seascape
populated by myriad varieties of coral which harbor pink conch, sponges,
anemones, sea fans and around 500 species of fish including the grouper,
angel fish and porkfish, not to mention then rare sea turtles which nest
on area beaches year after year.
To reach the Costa Maya take Highway 307 north form Chetumal or Bacalar to
the village of Limones, then take the highway to Majahual.

Both Majahual and Xcalak further south are the departure points for
sportfishing and fly fhising excursions, birdwatching and diving trips to
nearby reefs and the Banco Chinchorro coral atoll. A ferry operates from
Chetumal to Xcalak and both Majahual and Xcalak have airstrips.
A two-hour boat trip or 30 kilometers offshore is Chinchorro, Mexico's
largest coral atoll, 240 square miles of jagged reef lying at a depth of
the water plunges dramatically and a 1000-meter-deep channel separates
Chinchorro from the mainland.
The Costa Maya won't remain undiscovered for long. The highway and roads
are good in the Costa Maya.
There is an airport scheduled to be built in
the next few years to serve the Costa Maya, and a cruise boat facility is
already in the works.
The Costa Maya is close to Belize, making travel
between Mexico and Belize simple. There are already a few developed
areas, such as Xcalak, Mexico.

Some sections of the Costa Maya are protected and cannot be
sold. The Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve is a large park set aside to
preserve the natural resources of the Costa Maya.
Several newly
discovered Mayan ruins will soon be open for visitors to the Costa Maya.
Private relaxation and natural beauty are what call
today's visitors to the Costa Maya. Scuba divers explore the Costa Maya's
healthy coral reef.
Anglers can chose between deep sea sports fishing on
the Caribbean or flats fishing in the Costa Maya's unique salt water
lagoons. Birdwatchers marvel at the bird populations who make their home
in the Costa Maya's unspoiled mangrove and jungles.
Mexico's Caribbean
coast is warm year round and a perfect place to vacation.
Come enjoy Mexico's Costa Maya
